Open.Dems is a project of the The Democratic National Committee’s Innovation Lab with contributions from across the organization.

The Innovation Lab is a small team of technologists that is working to build exciting new platforms for community organizing, issue advocacy and electoral politics from inside the party. We’re experimenters and engineers; organizers and designers. We’re engaged in an ongoing experiment to see what might happen when an exceptionally talented team of engineers works along side some of the best organizers in politics – with lots of ideas flowing back and forth between them. So far we think it’s been a fruitful adventure. Open.Dems is our first step towards opening up that work by sharing what we’ve learned, listening to your feedback and inviting to you to build amazing things on top of the infrastructure we’re building.

Senior Software Engineer

The Democratic National Committee and Organizing for America is seeking a talented software engineer to empower communities across the country and be a key agent in the agenda of change. The Senior Software Engineer will build and maintain a variety of open, scalable web services that will be critical pieces of party infrastructure.

The Senior Software Engineer will work closely with the DNC’s data and web teams to develop and maintain the DNC’s suite of web services. They will also work in conjunction with DNC Labs and Organizing for America to assist in the development of organizing applications for use in OFA’s advocacy and other work. The Sr. Software Engineer should have at least five years of relevant technical experience — and should be proficient in Ruby.

Skills:

  • Be passionate about developing high quality software
  • Understand and be practiced in behavior driven development and agile software methodologies
  • Have a history of building web – scale applications
  • Be creative — and driven to electing Democrats and organizing for the President’s agenda
  • Be willing to work closely with and communicate with non-technical stakeholders
